Community Meeting to enhance Smith Park and Pool in San Gabriel

By Bronwyn Velazquez - Monterey Park , Glendale and Glendora Publisher. January 14, 2021

If you love Smith Park or Smith Park Pool, the City of San Gabriel needs your help. The last Community Meeting is THIS Wednesday. January 20th at 6:30 pm. It's virtual on Zoom.  Over the past year and a half, San Gabriel Community Services has applied for Prop 68 grant funding. We did not receive the funding previously, but we are all hopeful this could be our chance. I have been involved with the process over the course of time. Both as a life long resident and as a Community Services Commissioner. Smith Park is very dear to my heart. Especially Smith Park Pool. I grew up swimming in the pool. I was a competitive swimmer and a San Gabriel Seagull. I became a lifeguard and played collegiate Water Polo. And YES! I got my start and foundations in Smith Park Pool. And like so many others, I celebrated birthdays, played on the playgrounds as a child, attended pool parties, Bbq's, city events and activities. Both of my children have grown up both in the pool and in the park. It's a special place to so many of us.

We can use your help THIS Wednesday. Attend the meeting virtually. You can give your input, and if you attended previous meetings, the City would love your support on this last meeting. Bring any ideas and thoughts. The City would love to hear them, and all input is appreciated and heard. If we were to receive this amazing opportunity, it would give the pool a whole new life. And it would be enjoyed by generations after generations. It's not just the pool, but other fantastic attributes to the park.

Whether you live in San Gabriel now, or are a former resident, a family who loves Smith Park, enjoys any of San Gabriel Community Services' activities or recreational classes. Your help and support is needed.
